Maria P. Vargas was born in Colombia and grew up in New Jersey. She has a B.A. in Sociology and Spanish Literature with a concentration in Child Psychology. In New Jersey, Maria trained and worked with Family Day Care Providers and Early Child Care Staff to ensure developmentally appropriate practices. For 14 years, she worked for the Danbury Regional Child Advocacy Center leading parent education groups in both English and Spanish. Currently she works part-time as a parent liaison at Park Avenue School in Danbury, and she does independent consulting for local organizations. In October of 2014, she had the pleasure of training under Jane Nelson and Carol Dores to become a Positive Discipline Facilitator. She truly believes in the power of the Positive Discipline philosophy.
For the past 20 years, Maria has lived in Danbury with her husband and three children. She has been actively involved in helping parents in different facets of parenthood. She is passionate about working with parents to help them build a positive, respectful relationship with their children.
